Digital Art Research ; Unit 12, Unit 29

I found this piece of Digital Art on the website
computerarts.co.uk.
The colours of the image immediately attracted me, as blue is one of my favorite colours, the mixture of blues and tones is beautiful mixture and is extremely attractive for the eyes.
The main font in the middle of the image reads "Things i did, that no one wanted"
The rest of the image is very typographic, with most of the background is filled with logo's and fonts.

I think that the image is extremely expressive and meaningful, by showing the artists emotions, feelings and general interests.

This image is an excellent piece of digital art.
I feel that the artist has used the colours of black and white to sybolise the aggressive discrimination against black people, the colours are infused to suggest that the apartheid is no more, and white people can live together in harmony.
The artwork itself is in the 3rd dimension, which makes it contemporary and unique in contrast to the serious themes of the colours.

The title of this image is Selfillumination.

The Dennotation of the image on a lightbulb, plugging itself into a plug, or maybe it is unplugging itself, which would make more sense. I have no idea how this image was produced and on what program, but i am guessing it was made on some sort of CAD program.
The plug itself is vaguely humanoid, as it has human like limbs and a head, which is the bulb. the colours used are very bland and washed out, i feel that this to give the image a futuristic modern feel as, for example modern furniture is very bland in colour and simplistic.
I think that the hidden meaning of the image is all about energy consumption, and possibly the darkside of energy consumption of us slowly destroying the earth. If the bulb is unplugging itself, it is showing us to turn of our lights to save energy, thus saving the earth.

This title of this image is Flying Machine
The image itself is a what looks like a mechanical fly, posed ready to take flight. The colours used are a mixture of greens and washed out greys.
I don't know what was used to produce this, but im guessing some form of CAD program was used.
I feel that the meaning of this image is that our technology is forever growing, and that soon we will have casual flying machines which will take the place of automobiles.

This image is entitled "Roboshark"

The denotation of the image is a mechanical shark, posed ready for attack in what looks like an imprisonment of some kind.
The shark itself has been produced on a CAD program, it looks like the creation has been inspired by transformers because of the humanoid robotic look. The colours used are all a shade of metallic grey to amplify the robotic theme of the image.

Mask Making Materials

To create my mask i will need a few materials, such as fur, paint, die, felt, wire ect.
I have looked on various websites where i can purchase arts and craft materials, to find the best price and quality for the materials i need.
For example i have looked on;
www.ebay.co.uk
www.amazon.co.uk
www.sallytwinkle.co.uk
www.hobbycraft.co.uk
www.homecrafts.co.uk

From my research, i have decided to purchase my materials from sallytwinkle. But instead of ordering online, i am going to visit the local shop my self.

Mask Making Research

I did some research into various ways of producing masks and techniques, to ultimately to assist me with my mask creation.

I found the site " http://365masks.blogspot.com/ " extremely helpful, it's provided me with lots of methods and techniques to make makes of all different shapes and sizes.
Googleing the phrase "Mask Making" bought up lots of useful and in depth resources.
This is one i found most useful - http://www.allspecies.org/edu/maskmaking.htm

Upon researching on said websites, i knew next to nothing about mask making, and found the research very rewarding.
I learned to techniques of producing masks with different types of materials, such as wire, paper mache and mod rock. I also learnt different styles of mask making, such as cartoony styles, replicas and shamanic.

The first technique i found was actually molding your own or someone else's face using paper mache. I feel i could use this technique and further the initial mould by adding features

Another technique i found, is a template mask, which is mainly associated with young children due to the simplicity of just cutting out the template and adding string so it attaches to the head.

The 3rd technique i found was was making a Easter Bunny mask, out of sponges, i also feel this is for younger kids due to the ease of creation and the easter bunny fictional character theme.

I learnt quite allot from my research, it has gave me plenty ideas on what im going to do for my own mask.

Power Animal Folklore and Mythology.

In China the panda is seen as a “national treasure”. The Chinese government has even given pandas as gifts to other countries governments.

One Tibetan legend of the panda is about how they got their beautiful, and unusual black markings.

A long time ago, when pandas lived in the mountains of Tibet, they were white as snow. They were friends with four female shepherds that watched their flocks, in the mountains near their village. One day as the shepherdesses where playing with a panda cub, a leopard leapt out of the bush and tried to attack the cub. The young shepherdesses threw themselves in front of the cub to save it and were killed by the leopard. All the pandas in the area were saddened by their deaths and held a memorial service to honor them and their bravery. To remember their sacrifice for the cub, the pandas all wore black ashes on their arms (as was the local custom). As they wept for the shepherdesses, they wiped their eyes with their paws, they covered their ears to block out the sound of the crying and they hugged each other in grief. As they did these things the ash spread and blackened their fur. The pandas did not wash the black off their fur as a way to remember the girls. To this day, pandas are covered with the black markings to always remember.

Nottingham Trip

Yesterday, we had a college trip to nottingham. We visited the lakeside exhibit, and then traveled to Wolloton Hall to study the animal museum for the Unit with Mark.
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip, i thought it was a nice change from the class room, and crucial to the unit with mark.
I took around 400 photographs on the trip, as research to assist me with the project. Here are a few photographs which i feel will be most beneficial.

Here are a few scenic i took around the grounds of the lakeside exhibit.

I took many more, but these are what i feel the most beneficial and also are my favourites.

Here are a few photos of the actual lakeside art exhibition.

After the Lakeside Exhibit, we traveled to Wolloton Hall to study the stuffed animals.
